Hi there Katie,
Short Response: No, there's no computer that is always virus free, but Minecraft is.
Longer Response: First, I'd like to talk to you a little about the basics of a computers and viruses. Computers all have what we call an operating system, this is what you see when you boot your computer, the operating system loading. It's the main difference between Apple and PC's. Otherwise with out this operating system you have nothing but a lot of part and metal. The other important part is that you have what is called a hard drive. A hard drive is basically where you store all your data, where everything is saved. When you go on to the web, you are at risk of getting a virus or becoming subjugated to other malicious attacks. This is the nature of the beast because all computers have hard drives that can be infected. However, it is very unlikely that you get a virus from just surfing the web. Where people really get in trouble is when they download items like Minecraft onto there computer. Remember your hard drive is where everything is saved so when you download Minecraft that's where it will go. Anything with a virus can then attack everything thats on your computer and even your operating system cussing your computer fatal damage because like we have established previously, a operating system is where is put together and displayed for you. Without you would be looking at a black screen which is what some viruses can do. They can also steal info and phish all your e-mails and online transactions. Having said all this there is NO computer on earth that is 100% guaranteed to not get a virus unless you never download anything or connect to the web. However, Minecraft is a safe download. Millions of people can confirm. You have nothing to worry about as long as you download Minecraft from its creators website, Minecraft.net. You'll also notice that Minecrafts website has an encrypted HTTPS website so putting you info in should be safe. Mods can be dangerous. Make sure that you download mods that are popular and have alot of downloads. Also I would stick to planetminecraft and minecraftforums to download mods from. Those two should be fairly safe especially if they have alot of downloads. There are a couple of things you can do to keep your computer extra safe if you are very nervous about its being. Install a security sweet. There are lots of great ones out there. Overall, there is NO danger in downloading minecraft from its source, but mods could be potentially dangerous because they too have access to you hardrive to a certain extent. If your dad is still not sure have him read this and if he wants send me a couple of messages with any questions. Also if you're looking to buy a computer that can run minecraft, you shouldn't have to spend more than 300$. Check out Best Buys website, Microcenter, or whatever you prefer. Just look for a good processor as thats what minecraft mainly relies on and preferably 4 GB of ram.
Best Wishes Max

Minecraft dos not have ANY viruses if you download it from the official Minecraft website "minecraft.net". Although, be careful when installing mods and texture packs. Only download mods and texture packs from minecraftforum.net. Downloading from other websites may give you a virus. minecraftforum.net always goes through their downloadable content and deletes all threads linking to mods that contain viruses. Most mods and texture packs on minecraftforum.net are posted by the creators. Most mod and texture pack creators use adfly. When linked to adfly, wait for the count down. DO NOT CLICK THE ADS ON adfly OR YOU WILL GET VIRUSES! The website adfly itself does not have ANY viruses, but the ads do. Only click the button on the top right of the website to be safely directed to the installation. Like I said, Minecraft does not have any viruses if downloaded from the official website, minecraft.net. Only download mods and texture packs from minecraftforum.net and never from anywhere else. When linked to adfly to download the mod or texture pack do not click the ads, only click the top right button when the count down is done. This will direct you to either adfly again or another website with the safe download. If you and your dad are still concerned, just do a virus scan on everything. A virus scan on Minecraft is not nescessary but if your concerned then go ahead. But mods and texture packs have more risks so I would advise scanning them. If you have two hard drives, download and scan them on one hard drive, then if they are not safe, uninstall them. If they are safe, then move them over to your primary hard drive. But still, Minecraft downloaded from minecraft.net is safe. Mods and texture packs downloaded from minecraftforum.net is also safe as long as you do not click the ads on adfly. I hope you get to download Minecraft for the computer. It is much better than the xbox or PE editions. Good luck and have fun!

Well, you should try a Mac. It NEVER freezes. Well, not anytime I was on. Or you could by a new Dell or HP computer, but I highly recommend a Mac. Like some people have already said, all computers are vulnerable to viruses.
