What is the strange chiming song I heard on Minecraft?

Been playing Minecraft for a little while and all of a sudden this strange chiming song started playing? I kind of freaked out and was running around looking to see if there was something going on around me. Nothing. It had the sound of a ringtone on an old phone. Anyone?

Its bats! my guess is you are hearing this while caving and or while near caves. Bats where added in update 1.4.2 and have their own unique chirping sound.
