I wanna play minecraft with a friend but not with a bunch of other people. Just the two of us. Is this possible? We both have microphones so we want to be able to talk to each other too.
Ansver:
You can open your single player minecraft world to lan and give your friend the ip that it gives you when you open to lan. (you need to type in /publish after opening to lan). You can also make a minecraft server and only give your friend the Ip. And to talk to your friend, you can have skype and minecraft open at the same time. hope this helped. :)
----------------------------
You can host a Minecraft server, it shouldn't be hard if it's just the two of you.
Just download the minecraft server file from the website and put it in a folder where you want the server files to be. You also have to do a thing called port forwarding. To do this just put your routers IP address into your browser and log in. Then you can make a port for minecraft (default is 25565). Once you have set up the port you just run the server file and it'll do everything.
To configure server properties open up the server properties file with notepad and you should see everything there. Go to whatsmyip to get the IP address and give it to people so they can connect to the server. If you want to connect to your own server, you must use your local IP address.
As for talking just use skype, free skype to skype calls, thats what my friends and I do.

press start while in a game and switch the options to invite only (or you may have to do it before you start the game) and then invite that friend. if you want to talk to him invite him to a party

well for Computer if you are really close you create a world, after it is created press escape and hit open to lan. if they are far away create a multiplayer server and only let 2 people in
