How do you make your minecraft server really popular?

I just started my first minecraft world and I want many people to be on it. I just do not know how to do that. I just want to have a lot of people go to my server.

Publicize the server ID on everywhere you can post comments on the Internet. Someone is bound to try your server out, and if that person likes it, they'd likely tell others about it. First you might want to add some plugins before releasing to the public. Such as lockit, commands, etc. ,etc. You might wanna build a awesome spawn point and not putting you in a jungle right away. Then after you think your server is nifty release it to the public such as planetminecraft, and minecraft forums.It could be pretty time consuming.The most it could take about a week till about 10 regularly players. How most servers fall tho is when minecraft updates and the servers aren't compatible with the latest version.Hope this helps.
