I have recently bought minecraft and would like to play survival mode online. How?

I have a new computer capable of running minecraft. I just need to know if it's possible to create a free minecraft survival mode server. Is it different than single player. If it is, how so? Thanks for answering!

well if you wanna make your own server, you can download the file from minecraft.net, or get bukkit client. If you want to join one other people have made you can try MCServerlist.net and sites similar. Basically the only difference from single player is that there are other people, some server have plugins how ever that can add banking systems, jobs, shops, etc. If you want to play survival, not like an RPG server or something, look for servers that say "vanilla" that means there are no plugins, just strait up minecraft. First, you need to look up a server online, or make one yourself. you can find them on the Minecraft Forums. http://minecraftforums.com/ or look them up on wikipedia. you have to copy the server IP or address and put it in under multiplayer, then make a name for it so you'll remember which server is which (depending if you have more than one or not) then BAM enjoy your new server.
